What is the difference between a cream and lotion?
The biggest difference between a cream and lotion is the oil content. Creams have a larger percentage of oil content and are most useful to deeply nourish and hydrate very dry skin. Creams are generally better in the winter when there is less moisture in the air, or in dry climates. Our thick, luxurious creams use natural fruit and nut butters to deeply moisturize and nourish dry skin.
Lotions have a larger percentage of purified water and are most beneficial to keep skin hydrated. Lotions are generally better in the summertime or in climates with higher moisture content in the air. All lotions at SALUS are thicker than commercially made brands. If you are seeking a light bodied lotion, our Soothing Aloe Lotion is the lightest followed by our Goat’s Milk and Green Tea Tree Lotions. Silky Shea is our thickest lotion due to its high Shea content and closely resembles a cream in texture.
The choice between a cream and lotion is also a matter of personal preference. Creams have a thicker consistency and texture than lotions and are packaged in a jar rather than a bottle and pump.
We created the following Skin Care Chart for our creams and lotions. All our creams and lotions are made with ultra moisturizing fruit and nut butters. Which ever product you decide on you can’t go wrong! We use the best natural ingredients Mother Nature has given us to nourish and protect your skin. As a general rule of thumb, the name of the product reflects the main ingredient. For example, Shea Butter (Cream) contains mostly Shea Butter, but it also contains moisturizing oils of Sunflower, Olive, and Vitamin E. Goat’s Milk Lotion contains a high percentage of pure Goat Milk, as well as Aloe, Grapeseed Oil and Shea Oil. Be sure to look at the Extra Info for each product as well as the ingredients list on each product page.

Hemp Oil is one of the most moisturizing oils and is a great choice for very dry skin. Hemp does have a light inherent odor to it which can be hard to mask with scent. |
